As part of this year's global awareness campaign of the Global Investor Week 2023, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has created and is publishing the "Smart Investor Booklet".

The booklet contains important and practical advice in the form of short messages prepared by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to promote the key messages of the campaign and help investors protect themselves from inappropriate decisions or behaviour, but also to avoid potential risks and losses regarding investments.

For example, a smart investor:

- considers the impact of fees and the effect of compound interest – and always understands an investment before they make a decision;

- avoids "get rich quick" and "can't lose" schemes; if it looks too good to be true, it probably is;

- does not forget about the importance of due diligence when considering any investment opportunity, including crypto assets;

- recognizes the warning signs of investment fraud;

- is skeptical of unsolicited investment offers through social media

- weathers negative financial shocks with an adequate emergency fund.

The booklet is available to the public at FINANCIAL EDUCATION HUB, a special section on CySEC’s official website which is dedicated to the education and training of the public.
