Kyrgyzstan is steadily strengthening its position on the international economic stage. In recent years, the country has recorded one of the highest economic growth rates in Central Asia, expanded its trade relations with the European Union, attracted foreign investment, and modernised its business environment. Against this backdrop, the signing of a double taxation agreement with Cyprus represents another step towards expanding international economic cooperation and enhancing the republic’s investment appeal.
Today, 8 June 2026, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, an Agreement for the Elimination of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and Capital, and for the Prevention of Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance, was signed between the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
On behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, the Agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantine Kombos, while the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic was represented by the Minister of Economy and Commerce, Bakyt Sydykov.
The signing of this Agreement marks an important step towards further strengthening bilateral economic, trade and investment relations between Cyprus and Kyrgyzstan. It reinforces the institutional framework for cooperation between the two countries in tax matters, reducing administrative and tax burdens while ensuring that no opportunities are created for tax evasion or tax avoidance.
The Agreement establishes a clear tax framework for transactions between the two states, providing taxpayers and investors with certainty and stability. It also provides for the exchange of tax information between the competent authorities and sets out procedures for the resolution of tax disputes.
The expansion, maintenance and modernisation of Cyprus’s network of double taxation agreements remain a key economic and political priority for the Government, particularly with partners such as Kyrgyzstan. The Agreement is expected to further strengthen and promote Cyprus’s position as an international business centre.
