Successful Business magazine met with a general manager of the resort Mr. Costas Costa who shares insights into his journey, the vision behind the hotel's extensive renovations, and the strategies that set the GrandResort apart from its competitors.

     

    Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background in the hospitality industry?

    I have been in the hospitality industry from a very young age, and I have worked with leading international organizations such as The Marriott, Four Seasons, and Mövenpick. Each of these experiences has contributed to shaping my approach to service, leadership, and creating memorable guest experiences.

     

    How did your journey lead you to the GrandResort in Cyprus, which is now a part of the Leonardo Hotels group?

    My family and I made a life-changing decision to relocate from North America to Cyprus. I wanted to join a hotel group with a strong international presence, a proven track record, and long-term growth potential. Leonardo Hotels offered exactly that — a dynamic group with an inspiring vision for the future of Mediterranean hospitality. 

     

    The resort went through renovation and reopened its doors to the public. Can you share some details about the scope of the renovation? What were the main areas of focus?

    Our goal was to elevate every aspect of the resort while maintaining a sense of warmth and familiarity — to create an atmosphere that blends luxury with the feeling of “your home away from home.”

    The renovations included all 255 suites and guest rooms, a redesigned lobby area with a stylish new lobby bar, and our lush outdoor spaces, which have been reimagined to complement our breathtaking gardens and sea views. The result is a resort that feels both elegant and inviting — a perfect balance for leisure and business guests alike. 

     

    What strategies are in place to attract both new and returning guests to the resort?

    Our Sales & Marketing team has developed diverse strategies aimed at attracting guests from across the globe. One of our most successful introductions has been the Ultra All-Inclusive concept, which offers guests a seamless, worry-free experience covering accommodation, dining, beverages, and amenities. We also provide exclusive benefits such as discounts at our à la carte restaurants, VIP packages, and personalized upgrades, ensuring that every guest feels valued and eager to return. 

     

    How does the resort differentiate itself from other luxury hotels in Cyprus?

    Without a doubt, it’s our people. Our team’s genuine warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail are second to none. We treat every guest as part of our extended family — and that personal connection is what truly sets us apart. 

     

    What new dining or recreational options are available to guests now that the resort has reopened?

    We have opened two new restaurants that are sure to become very well known on the island. The Yashinoki Asian Restaurant serves high-quality Japanese and Chinese dishes, including a plethora of options from sushi to woks to Wagyu beef. Meanwhile, the Ouzeri by the Sea celebrates authentic Mediterranean flavours with top-quality meats and seafood, all crafted with a fresh, local touch.

    These new venues, together with our existing dining outlets, elevate the overall culinary journey at the resort.

     

    What do you see as the biggest challenge facing luxury resorts today, and how are you addressing it?

    Currently, one of the biggest challenges across the global hospitality industry is the shortage of qualified staff. Recruiting and retaining key people is essential for maintaining service excellence. In Cyprus, as in many destinations, we’re focusing on nurturing talent internally and investing in training to ensure our team continues to grow with us. 

     

    What should visitors expect in the near future?

    Visitors can look forward to a comprehensive luxury experience — from exceptional service and high-quality dining to state-of-the-art facilities that cater to every type of traveller: couples, families, spa and wellness enthusiasts, and business guests alike.
